The BBC's World Cup web site was probably the first major implementation of semantic web technologies on a commercial media site. John was Chief Technical Architect, Journalism and Knowledge, BBC Future Media & Technology at the time, and recently joined the Press Association (UK's version of the Associated Press) where he is again working on integrating semantic technologies. Some background on his work is available in a "call to action" John issued on a BBC tech blog last year. It is available here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/bbcinternet/2010/07/the_world_cup_and_a_call_to_ac.html

John O'Donovan recently joiined Press Association following an accomplished career at the BBC where he was Chief Architect of BBC News and Sport Interactive and previously Chief Architect and Head of Interactive Technology for the BBC iPlayer.
